Peugeot HR1 Concept – Peugeot 2008?

September 30, 2010 By Cars UK

The Peugeot HR1 Concept

The Peugeot HR1 Concept

Peugeot has revealed the Peugeot HR1 Concept at the Paris Motor Show, a frugal, compact, funky, urban crossover which could point the way to a Peugeot 2008.

At first glance you could be forgiven for thinking that the Peugeot HR1 concept is a Nissan Juke. It has that same funky feel the Juke does. And in truth it’s a very similar car.

We don’t think that Peugeot are going to abandon the hatchback, but we reckon this HR1 concept could preview a crossover to slot in beneath the very able Peugeot 3008. And it looks very credible, if rather ‘Concepty’.

Power comes from new, 3-pot, 110bhp, 1.2 litre petrol engine which is used to power the front wheels. But the back wheels get a 37bhp electric motor to provide a full Hybrid4 setup for the little crossover. With that sort of powertrain you won’t be surprised to learn that the HR1 averages 81mpg with emissions of just 80g/km. And it should be nippy too.

In terms of style, we get to see the incorporation of Peugeot’s new design language which we first saw in the Aston Martin-esque SR1 concept. There’s hints of the double-bibble roof from the RCZ and there’s a set of electric scissor doors.

Much of this can be put down to flights of fancy in a concept. But we did that with the RCZ, and that came to market with the glorious double-bubble glass roof. So although chunks of the HR1 will never make it to production, we wouldn’t bet against a lot of what you see ending up on a production model.

Inside the HR1 you get stuff like ‘movement recognition technology’ which will allow you to wave your arms around to control functions like audio and SatNav instead of having piles of buttons. What that will mean when you got a car full of kids I dread to think.

Third and fourth seats can be added in to the HR1 as and when needed, but without them the HR1 offers a two seater with an impressive 734 litres of stowage.

Lots of innovative stuff. Don’t bet against it coming to market.
