The Renault Wind Gordini
Renault announces the Renault Wind Gordini which will debut at the Geneva Motor Show.
When we revealed the Gordini moniker was going to be dragged out of the history cupboard to adorn modern Renaults we were fairly charitable. After all, we’d been less than keen on Citroen’s resurrection of the DS moniker to adorn a titivated C3. And then we got our hands on the joy that is the Citroen DS3 and had to change our minds.
So we decided we should be a little more charitable and welcoming to the Gordini plan. After all, if Renault could come close to matching what Citroen has done with the DS3 we’d be delighted. But they haven’t. The Gordini badge is exactly what we originally expected the modern DS badge to be. A waste of time.
A Renault Gordini should offer something special; a treat for the senses with a sporting heritage shining through. But all you actually get is a blue paint job with white stripes. And a few white splodges. And a few blue splodges And some badges. Inside and out.
We’ve already had a few Gordini versions of Renault’s regular range, and all get the same formula of blue and white. And a big dose of marketing cynicism. And little else. As you’ll see when the Gordini Wind debuts at Geneva.
