With what is claimed to be the first proper all-electric four seater car for the UK, The Electric Car Company has announced the immediate launch of the all electric Citroen C1 ev’ie today.
Based (obviously) on Citroen’s baby C1, the C1 ev’ie aims to be as car-like as possible, but offering all the economies (and most of the drawbacks!) of an electric car. The donor cars are supplied by Citroen UK and the company claims that 50% of the value of the car is generated in the UK with the conversion to all electric drive.
Designed to have a range of 60-70 miles this is a city car, pure and simple. But 60-70 miles is more than any of us who live in cities are likely to do in a day, and with a full charge, from a 13amp domestic socket, coming in at about 90p and being achieved in 6-7 hours, this is potentially a good city run-around.
The ECC are expecting to sell around 500 C1 ev’ie cars in the next year, rising to over 2,000 in 2010. It’s not cheap at £16,850 (around double the cost of the donor car), but if you do live in a city you can probably reduce your fuel costs by around 75%, and if you’re in London you won’t have to pay the congestion charge.
Starts to make sense.

I’d buy one if the range was 100 to 200 miles.
It’s not feasible to own one for me until recharge
stations are common.

Seems a better offer than the ‘Think’ from Norway, beeing a 4 seat car(?).
The price in UK seems much lower than that of the Think in the Netherlands (about 31kGB) too!
Is there a place to see more information of this C1 electric?

Great news about the Citreon C1 Ev’ie, shame only
Londoners can test drive it. And why are the government dragging their heels about the £5000 subsidy, we want it NOW.

Finally the car manufacturers are starting to realize that city drivers ARE interested in electric cars.
