The Maserati Grand Turismo is a stunning looking car. It’s exactly how a Maserati should look – flowing lines, gorgeous curves and an aggressive, yet subtle stance. But it’s been criticised for its lack of punch and sharpness. And in some ways the critics are right – it’s certainly not as focused as it could be.
But Maserati now has the answer, unveiled at the Bologna Motor Show, in the Maserati Grand Turismo MC Sport Line ( I know they want to give us all the information they can in the name, but some of car names are getting so long they’re not going to fit on the boot-lid before long).

On the cosmetic front, the MC Sport Line gets front and rear carbon fibre spoilers, extra carbon fibre on the door handles and mirrors, and some glossy black 20″ rims. The inside also get the carbon fibre treatment and a dash of ‘MC Sport Line’ motifs, just in case you forget what you’re in.
On a more useful, rather than cosmetic, note, the MC Sport Line also gets its suspension lowered and various tweaks, including stiffer shocks and roll-bars. And to be fair the new spoilers do contribute more than just cosmetics, adding a degree of down-force and some much needed sharpness to the handling.
Maserati are now going further down the personal customisation route (which can be a big earner) by offering a completely bespoke service to their buyers – The Maserati Customisation Package – which will give an almost endless series of customisation options for those who want it.
These mods do look like they will make the car a much more driver-focused machine than it was. Maserati has been known to consider aesthetics over outright driver entertainment (the Alfa 8C is a good example of this – although badged an Alfa it is in essence a Maserati, and its on the road performance is a big let-down), but the MC Sport Line goes a long way to addressing the critics.
