At the end of last month, as expected, and following the ending of production of the V12 Vantage, the new Aston Martin V12 Vantage S arrived.
Aston proclaimed the new V12 Vantage S as the quickest production car they’d ever built (with the exception of the £1 million One-77) but declined to tell us exactly how quick it was.
Admittedly, the V12 Vantage S times are for the Coupe, and the F-Type is a Roadster, but if the figures on the V12 Vantage are anything to by then the Vantage S Roadster will be 0.3 seconds slower than the coupe, and just beat the F-Type by 0.1s.
The extra power makes the V12 Vantage S more appealing, and the price jump over the old car is just £2k at £138,000. But that still makes it £58k more expensive than the F-Type.
Is it worth an extra £58k for being the prettiest car in its class?

Jaguar F type V8S costs £79,950.
Aston Martin Vantage V12 S costs £138,000
Let’s see how it compares when the F type coupe R and RS versions come out.
There’s been talk of a 700bhp version.
Ian Walters says
That’s some premium to pay….worth waiting for the F Type coupe? A smidge prettier than the soft top?”
Cars UK says
It is, and by any measure it’s too much. But the Aston is so pretty!
Agree on the F-Type Coupe – that will be the real deal, especially with an R version offering 600bhp!
Yuval Brandstetter says
well they are both slower than a Tesla Roadster at 3.6 sec 0-100 while making far more noise, costing two-three times as much and polluting the air. So does it make any sense to make a luxury sports car that is NOT electric?
Methinks no
Cars UK says
We won’t go in to the whole EV argument, but the Tesla Roadster doesn’t drive like a Jaguar F-Type or V12 Vantage. As for price, the Tesla Roadster cost around £100k in the UK – £20k MORE than the F-Type V8 S!
Chris says
How long do the batteries last on a Tesla roadster? How much does it cost to replace them?
How long does it take to recharge the Tesla compared to filling the tank of the Aston Martin?
Electric cars are for green tree huggers. The funny thing is that the electricity is probably produced by a coal fired power station.

All valid criticisms.
