Volvo has released a teaser video for a new car at the Frankfurt motor Show promising a more dramatic style. Is this a modern Volvo P1800.

New Volvo tease for Frankfurt (pictured) Is it a modern P1800?
We really didn’t have anything completely new and radical on the radar from Volvo for the Frankfurt Motor Show next month, but if this teaser video from Volvo is anything to go by, we could be in for a surprise.
But the teaser text that goes with the video says ‘An imminent transformation is underway’, which we must assume means to Volvo’s design language, and a strong hint that whatever the new Volvo is, it’s heading for Frankfurt.
Thomas Ingenlath – who does the voiceover – says that when he joined Volvo a year ago, some considered Volvo’s design language as ‘Vanilla’ – nice, but not iconic or cutting edge – and goes on to say that he can assure us “The Vanilla days are over”.
There’s little in the imagery of the video that gives the game away, but if you play with pause and play enough you can get glimpses of what looks to us like a modern take on perhaps the coolest Voilvo of all time – the Volvo P1800.
Could it be a new Volvo P1800 for the 21st century – complete with one of Volvo’s new 4-cylinder engines – or is wish father to the thought?
It’s certainly something Tomas Ingenlath’s predecessor imagined.
