The first Jaguar from JLR’s new Special Operations division is a production version of the Jaguar Project 7 F-Type Roadster first seen at Goodwood 2013.

There were very few dissenting voices when Jaguar revealed their Project 7 F-Type Roadster Concept, homage to Jaguar’s D-Type, and it seems the almost universal approval of Jaguar’s creation has persuaded JLR that a production version of the Project 7 should be Jaguar’s first Special Operations division production car. And here it is.

Due to be revealed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed later this week, the Jaguar F-Type Project 7 is a limited run, more powerful, more dynamic and more extreme version of Jaguar’s regular F-Type Roadster.

Looking remarkably faithful to the Project 7 Concept, the production car gets the scooped fairing at the back – more than a passing nod to the D-Type – new body kit, a deep front spoiler and a thumping great spoiler at the back.

Liberal use of carbon fibre on the body – and the seats – helps cut weight from the production car by 80kg, as does the lack of an electric roof. Instead, you get an origami roof in a bag in case it rains when you’re out playing.

The suspension of the Project 7 F-Type has had a serious fettling in the process with increased negative camber on the front, bigger anti-roll bars, new spring and damper rates and is now height adjustable.

Carbon ceramic brakes come as standard and hide behind 20″ Storm alloys, and torque vectoring dabs the ceramic rotors to combat understeer.

Power comes from Jaguar’s supercharged V8, but in the Project 7 it comes with 567 bhp and 502lb/ft of torque, enough for a 0-62mph of under 4 seconds.

The Jaguar F-Type Project 7 will debut this week at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and go on sale in 2015, with just 250 being built.

How much will, the Project 7 F-Type be? Jaguar aren’t saying, but we wouldn’t be surprised if you could spend £150,000 by the time you add a few options.
