Jaguar D-Type 60th Anniversary race at Goodwood Revival

Up to 30 Jaguar D-Types will take to the track at the Goodwood Revival in September in the Lavant Cup to celebrate the D-Type’s 60th anniversary.

Up to 30 Jaguar D-Types will race at the 2014 Goodwood Revival

The Jaguar E-Type os perhaps the most loved classic Jaguar, but the D-Type is the most iconic.

This year is the 60th anniversary of the D-Type, so the Goodwood Revival – that wonderful world of all things classic car – will be celebrating the D-Type’s anniversary this September with a race where up to 30 D-Types are expected to compete.

D-Types from around the world will congregate in Sussex for the Lavant Cup on the Saturday of the Revival, with plenty of regular D-Types, the later long-nose variant and even the experimental E2A one-off prototype that acted as a bridge between the D-Type and E-Type taking part.

Not only will the racing D-Types take part, but there will also be Jaguar XKSS versions of the D-Type

The Jaguar XKSS – of which just sixteen exist – was created using the D-Type chassis Jaguar had left when the stopped racing in the mid 1950s and the XKSS is perhaps the most desirable Jaguar there is. Let’s hope no one bends one.

All this happens during the weekend of 12-14 September 2014, where most visitors make the effort to dress up in period – with everything from tweeds and trilbies to frills and frocks – to make the Revival not just a celebration of cars gone by, but of time gone by too.

If you’ve never been to the Goodwood Revival, you should treat yourself, if only to see the sight of up to 30 Jaguar D-Types and XKSS barrelling round the Goodwood Circuit.

But there’ll be a lot more too.
