Audi Q7 e-tron plug-in Hybrid revealed: Geneva 2015

The Audi Q7 e-tron – a 368bhp plug-in hybrid Q7 – has been revealed at the Geneva Motor Show promising 166mpg and 0-62mph in 6.0 seconds.

The new Audi Q7 has only just been revealed, but instead of showing endless e-tron concepts – as they’ve done in the past with their models – Audi has jumped in with a plug-in version heading for Audi dealers this year – the Audi Q7 e-tron.

The hybrid plug-in powertrain uses Audi’s 3.0 litre V6 diesel with 254bhp mated to an electric motor housed in the Q7’s eight-speed automatic gearbox with an additional 126bhp, with the combined 368bhp and 516lb/ft of torque promising 0-62mph in 6.0 seconds and official economy and emissions of 166.2mpg and 50g/km.

There’s a 17.3kWh bank of lithium-ion batteries under the floor of the boot that offer an electric only range of up to 34 miles (and a total range of up to 876 miles) and can be fast charged in as little as two hours. There’s also a heat pump that collects waste heat and uses to heat the cabin, saving battery power.

The Q7 e-tron offers four driving modes, with EV mode offering pure electric driving, hybrid mode delivering the best automatic balance of the two power sources and Battery Hold saving battery power for when you need it.

Elsewhere, the Q7 e-tron offers much the same as a top-spec new Q7.

The new Audi Q7 e-tron will go on sale in the UK in 2016. Prices have not yet been revealed.
