The 2016 Citroen Ds4 has had a facelift with new styling and refreshed engines and the arrival of the DS4 Crossback as a high-riding variant. Debuts Frankfurt 2015.
Citroen are on a mission to make ‘DS’ in to a credible luxury sub-brand and have taken the facelift for the 2016 DS4 as the perfect opportunity to launch a new trendy DS4 CrossBack to the range. The DS4 CrossBack comes with a ride height 30mm higher than the regular DS4 and the normal prerequisite for a rufty-tufty model with a bit of butch styling, bigger alloys, skidplates and a set of roof bars.
The facelift bits for the DS4 include the new DS nose, extra chrome trim, new LED headlights, new 7″ touchscreen (which tidies up the dash by lowering the button count) and new colour choices including two-tone jobs for the DS4 Hatch.
Engines have been tweaked for 2016, with 128bhp Pure Tech 130 S&S, THP 165 and THP 210 making up the petrol offerings, and the Blue HDi diesel options being offered in 120, 150 and 180 power outputs, but the CrossBack will only get the option of the Pure Tech 130 petrol and Blue HDi 120 with manual gearbox and auto option.
Thierry Metroz, Design Director for DS, said:
A DS is identified first and foremost through its body style, unique proportions with a strong personality. Our choice for DS 4? A wide road-hugging body style for the New DS 4 hatchback version and an elegant go-anywhere style for DS 4 Crossback. With these two distinct vehicles, we are remaining true to our ambition: to deliver a new and exciting experience.
With the Crossover market growing – and the Hatch market declining – the addition of the DS4 CrossBack is a sensible move for Citroen as it seeks to put daylight between its mainstream offerings and those from DS.
The new DS4 will debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month and arrive in Citroen’s UK showrooms in November with prices from around £19.5k.
