Skoda Vision S SUV Concept (pictured) preview the Kodiak
The Skoda Vision S SUV Concept has been revealed ahead of a debut at the Geneva Motor Show, previewing the production Skoda Kodiak SUV.
The Vision S Concept looks to be close to a production car, a production car that we expect to arrive at the Frankfurt Motor Show in the autumn as the Skoda Kodiak (although Skoda hasn’t confirmed the Kodiak badge), signalling Skoda’s arrival in the ever-growing SUV market alongside sister VW Group company SEAT.
Skoda say the Vision S embodies a new design language (apparently inspired by Czech Cubism and Bohemian Crystal Art), and there’s a new take on Skoda’s grill, slim headlights, a clamshell bonnet, sculptured flanks with prominent beltline, plastic cladding and a back end with slim tail lights and a hint of BMW X5.
At 4.70 metres long, 1.91 metres wide and 1.68 metres tall, the Vision S will be the biggest of Skoda’s planned SUV range, with seating for seven when it debuts (the concept has seating for six) and a range of petrol and diesel engines, although the Vision S comes with a hybrid drivetrain.
The hybrid setup combines a 1.4 litre petrol TSI with 154bhp and an electric motor with 54bhp for the front wheels, with a second electric motor on the back axle developing 114bhp and giving the Vision S four-wheel drive. The total combined output at any time is 222bhp. Whether Skoda actually delivers such a complex drivetrain in the production Kodiak remains to be seen.
