The new Audi SQ7 TDI SUV has been revealed in Geneva, and it offers truly impressive performance from its new 4.0 litre diesel V8, which produces a mighty 429bhp and 664lb/ft of torque. The new 4.0 litre V8 TDI gets twin turbos plus a new electric powered compressor (EPC) which works with the turbos to add boost at low revs.
The EPC spools up using a new 48-volt electrical system in just 250 milliseconds, so there’s no turbo lag and the SQ7 can deliver its power and torque practical;ly instantly.
That means the SQ7 can get to 62mph in just 4.8 seconds – within a whisker of the 5.0 litre supercharged petrol V8 in the Range Rover Sport SVR, and 0.6s quicker than the V8 diesel Porsche Cayenne – as well as return official economy of 38.2mpg. Although you don’t have a prayer of getting that in the real world.
The new 48-volt electrical system also powers the active roll stabilisation system which manages the shocks, springs, diff and all-wheel steering, which means instant response to inputs and maintenance free damping as there’s no oil.
Audi has also titivated the Q7 cosmetically for the SQ7, with additional air intakes, bigger bumpers, different grill and quad tail pipes, with the interior offering a choice of sports seats, heads-up display, B&O sound, LED lighting and the top-end MMI.
The new SQ7 should arrive in Audi’s UK dealers by the end of the summer, and with European prices set at €89,900, it looks like the UK price is going to be around £75k.
