Land Rover is celebrating the 100,000th Discovery Sport with a special one-off Sport as a Mothers Day gift for one family.
It only seems five minutes since the new Land Rover Discovery Sport – Land Rover’s replacement for the Freelander – arrived at the Paris Motor Show in 2014, but Land Rover has already hit the 100,000 mark with the Disco Sport. To celebrate the production milestone, Land Rover decided to treat the buyer of the 100,000th Sport to a Mothers Day treat by letting the family design some very special additions to her new car.
The lucky recipient of the Disco Sport special was Natalie Lipton, and her two sons – Jacob, 7, and Noah, who’s 5 – were roped in to spend time at Land Rover’s Halewood Plant to help create mum’s new car, and enjoy playing with some of Land Rover’s toys too, like driving virtual cars.
The tow boys had a small team of designers from JLR’s SVO to point them in the right direction and create some suitably personal touches to make mum’s new car very individual.
They included a personalised picnic blanket, back seat tidies, personalised treadplates with the ‘Lipton’ name on, water bottles for the children featuring their own handwriting, personalised child seats, rear-seat entertainment, a set of wellies for the whole family, a Barbour Land Rover jacket for mum and a signed cookbook from James Martin.
Paul Cleaver, Discovery Sport Programme Director, said:
The Discovery Sport is a truly versatile family car so it’s fitting that we are celebrating with such a special project from the Land Rover family to the Lipton family. It was fantastic meeting Noah and Jacob, they were enthusiastic, energetic and full of great ideas – definitely budding future car designers!
