The Mazda CX-4 – a new crossover from Mazda with a coupe roofline – is teased ahead of a debut at the Beijing Motor Show in April.
Just like every other car maker, Mazda knows that car buyers can’t get enough of crossovers and SUVs, so they’re adding to the current CX-3 and CX-5 with a new offering – the Mazda CX-4.The Mazda CX-4 will, unsurprisingly, fit in to the Mazda range between the CX-3 and CX-5, and with the same logic as BMW employs for their SUV nomenclature, the CX-4 will be a crossover/SUV with a coupe roofline – more style statement than purely practical crossover.
Previewed by the Koeru Concept at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, the CX-4 will employ Mazda’s KODO design language to create what should be an appealing crossover, with Mazda’s full range of SKYACTIV technologies and have underpinnings pretty much borrowed from the CX-5.
Mazda say the CX-4 will have “…a striking presence that sets it apart from other SUVs” and have lots of “Sustainable Zoom-Zoom“, so we must assume Mazda are focussing on driving pleasure for the CX-4.
Mazda aren’t giving away what powers the CX-4 – at least not yet – but it seems likely the choice will be the same as the CX-5, which means a 2.0 litre petrol with around 165bhp or a 2.2 litre diesel with either 150bhp or 175bhp and manual and auto options (at least in the UK).
The new Mazda CX-4 is due to debut at the Beijing Motor Show at the end of April, but it seems likely we’ll get more details – and a reveal – before then.
