Porsche Cayenne and VW Touareg RECALLED – 800,000 cars affected

Volkswagen are recalling the Touareg SUV and Porsche are recalling the Cayenne SUV to fix a faulty pedal circlip. 800,000 cars affected.

The Volgswagen Group has plenty of problems on its hands with #dieselgate, but to add to its woes it’s now having to recall large numbers of both the VW Touareg and Porsche Cayenne.

It seems VW has discovered that a circlip that fastens the bearing bracket for the pedal box could be loose, so they’re bringing back both Cayennes and Touaregs built between 2011 and 2016 for a fix.

In total, the VW Group are having to recall 391,000 Touaregs and 409,000 Cayennes for the fix, with around 14,600 Cayennes in the UK affected (VW hasn’t said how many Touaregs are subject to the recall in the UK).

For some reason, the Audi Q7 is not affected despite being based on the same underpinnings as the Cayenne and Touareg, but VW say the fix is a quick job and will take less than half an hour (we assume a man with a screwdriver to tighten the circlip is all that’s needed).

A recall of this size is probably all VW need at the moment, with big problems looming in the US as they have so far failed to come up with a solution for the defeat device issue, and massive recalls around the world to ‘fix’ the software that lead to the dieselgate problems.

Still, it’ll keep VW and Porche dealer workshops buzzing.
