2016 VW Golf Estate Match Edition – it’s an upgraded Golf Estate
Volkswagen is rolling out upgrades for the Golf, Passatt, Touran & Polo as it seeks to tempt buyers in to a VW, despite the dieselgate fallout.
All things considered, Volkswagen’s sales are holding up well in the wake of the dieselgate scam, but making potential buyers feel warm and fluffy towards VW’s cars is much needed to restore some sort of trust to the brand. And what better way than with a bribe or two?The bribes from VW take the form of upgrades across a chunk of the VW range – Golf, Passatt, Touran & Polo – for either no extra cost, or a cost well below what you would expect.
First on the list is the Golf Estate Match Edition, which replaces the SE, and adds a lot of extras including 16″ alloys, fogs, Mirror Pack, parking sensors, Discover Navigation (with 3-year subscription), and heated front seats and washers.
VW say all those goodies would cost £1975 if you’d added them to the SE Estate, but as the Match Edition costs from £22,045 you’re only paying £100 more.
Bribe number two is an allergy filter on the performance Golfs (GTi, GTD, GTE, R and Alltrack), and the Golf R (and Estate) now get the Discover Navigation and the heated front seats and washers the Match Edition get.
VW hasn’t been as generous here, with the Golf R and Estate going up by £500, although with an extra £1145 of stuff added.
Next up are upgrades for the Passat and Passat Estate, with a new 12″ high definition TFT dash screen, available across the range, there’s an improved Nivomat self-levelling suspension (although not on all models), and the GT and R-Line get Active Info Display and a Panoramic roof. That’s up to £1265 of stuff for an extra £245.
Finally, the Touran MPV gets a massive 5bhp more from its 1.6 litre TDI, and the Polo gets special editions.
Consider yourself bribed to buy a VW.
