Porsche 911 R fetching £1 MILLION?
It seems, according to reports from a finance company, that buyers are paying up to £1 million for a Porsche 911 R – that’s more than a 918 Spider.
We occasionally run a story about production cars carrying a big premium because buyers with more money than sense don’t want to wait a few months, and would rather throw money at scratching their itch than be patient. Although the premiums rapidly disappear when production catches up with demand. We also run the occasional story about very limited run cars attracting big premiums for much the same reason, although those forking out a big premium on cars like LaFerrari or the McLaren P1 are insulated to a degree because of their very rarity, and history telling us that anyone who bought a McLaren F1 or Ferrari Enzo or Porsche 959 new did very well out of it financially.
And that’s an argument you could use for paying a premium for the very appealing Porsche 911 R, which, with a naturally aspirated GT3 RS, a manual gearbox and without the ‘flash,’ is a Porsche purist’s dream, and Porsche are building just 991 for the whole world (although that’s twice as many as LaFerrari and P1 and more even than the 918).
So you can certainly imagine buyers who weren’t quick enough to chuck down the £136k asking price would be willing to pay a premium. Perhaps even double list or, if you stretch credulity a bit, three times list. But £1 million for a 911 R?
According to Magnitude Finance that’s the asking price if you want to get your hands on a 911 R, at least according to one of their clients who just happens to be a 911 R buyer.
We wonder if Magnitude’s client saw an eBay advert from a chancer a few months ago for a 911 R at over $1 million (it got taken down as quickly as it arrived) and decided to brag about how good his 911 R investment was? Or was he approached by someone daft enough to shell out that amount?
If it’s the latter, we’d be happy to grab one of several 911 Rs up for sale at less than half that and split the profit.
Just let us know.
