Porsche Mission E Electric car will create 1400 new jobs at Porsche

The 600bhp Porsche Mission E Electric Supercar – heading for production at Porsche’s plant at Zuffenhausen – will create 1400 new jobs at Porsche.

It’s only 10 months since the Porsche Mission E Concept was revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show as a look at what a future 600bhp Tesla-rivalling Porsche could offer, but things have moved on a fair bit since then.

Less than three months after tyhe Mission got its public debut, Porsche revealed they were investing £700 million in an electric future at Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, creating 1,000 new jobs and adding a new paint shop and assembly plant as well as extending the engine plant to churn out electric motors and enlarging the bodyshop.

It all sounded ambitious and expensive, so Porsche set about protecting their enviable margins by squeezing the workforce at Zuffenhausen just a little – no doubt with the promise of a very rosy electric future and job security – to increase their working week by an hour and forego parts of the planned pay increases over the next decade.

Now, with all the pierces of the jigsaw coming together, Porsche reveals the Mission E EV will actually create 1,400 jobs – 40 per cent more than originally expected – with 1,200 in production at Zuffenhausen and another 200 in IT, Digital and Apprentice positions.

When the Porsche Mission E EV does arrive – probably in 2020, if not before – Porsche say the four-door will offer 0-62mph in under 3.5 seconds and a range of more than 300 miles.

Which, depending on just how Porsche pitch the Mission E’s price, should make Elon Musk have sleepless nights.
