Range Rover Sport tackles a downhill ski slope
Land Rover has taken a V8 Range Rover Sport to the Inferno downhill ski course in Mürren, Switzerland and let ex-Stig Ben Collins loose.
Land Rover do like a stunt or two, especially when it’s a stunt which demonstrates Land Rover’s USP.So taking a stock (plus a roll cage) Range Rover Sport with the supercharged V8 engine to the legendary Inferno downhill ski course in Mürren, Switzerland, and taking along ex-Stig Ben Collins to drive it, looks like the perfect recipe for a Land Rover lesson in why they don’t build ordinary SUVs.
The Inferno downhill course drops 2,710 metres and is 14.9km long (in English, that’s 2,964 yards and 9.25 miles) and is a legendary downhill course which has been a destroyer of reputations since 1928.
With ben Collins behind the wheel, the Range Rover Sport managed the entire run in 21:36 tackling snow, ice, loose rock, mud, pitted asphalt, grass and gravel in the process, and demonstrated, as was Land Rover’s intent, that the Range Rover really is a breed apart.
Ben Collins said:
This was genuinely one of the hardest tests I’ve faced in my driving career.
The route was insane and certainly the toughest course I’ve ever completed. It challenged you with every kind of obstacle this side of molten lava and as conditions go, it was about as bad as it gets – torrential weather mixed with cliffs, trees, all kinds of stuff you don’t really want to crash into.
It may all be nothing more than a glorified advert for the Range Rover Sport, but it’s mighty impressive all the same.
