The production version of the Volvo XC40 – Volvo’s new compact SUV – is heading for a debut at the Shanghai Motor Show in April, say Chinese media.
There was a time, when the current Volvo V40 was shiny and new, that we expected Volvo to deliver a compact SUV in the guise of an XC40. But that turned out to be the V40 Cross Country when it arrived, a higher riding take on the regular V40.But now Volvo are close to rolling out a new range of ’40’ Series cars, and this time we know that will include a proper compact SUV – the new Volvo XC40.
Previewed by the Volvo 40.1 and 40.2 concepts revealed in May last year, the new XC40 promises much, especially if Volvo can deliver a smaller version of the stunning XC90.
Based on Volvo’s Compact Modular Architecture (CMA), the new XC40 will come with a number of engine and drivetrain options, including a T5 Twin Engine using a 1.5 litre 3-pot engine and electric motor to deliver 250bhp, as well as other 1.5 three-cylinder and 2.0 litre four-cylinder Drive-E engines.
And now it seems the production version of the Volvo XC40 is going to debut at the Shanghai Motor Show in April, with Chinese media reporting not only the debut of the XC40, but of the new Lynk & Co CS 01 – essentially a re-skinned XC40 – in production guise.
