2017 Ford GT gets 647bhp

Ford finally reveals that the 2017 Ford GT Supercar gets 647bhp from its 3.5 litre V6 and is quicker than a McLaren and Ferrari.
The headline figures are that the Ford GT’s 3.5 litre V6 engine develops a fulsome 647 bhp, peak torque of 550lb/ft at 6,250rpm, has a top speed of 216 mph and weighs 1385kg (3,054lb).
Interestingly, Ford has declined to come up with a 0-62mph time, and the dry weight figure is open to a bit of interpretation as it’s almost impossible to prove or disprove.
But it looks like the Ford GT is heavier than the McLaren 675LT and Ferrari 458 Speciale, cars Ford has used as a benchmark and against which it’s set itself.
In fact, Ford took the GT and the McLaren and Ferrari off to the Calabogie Motorsports Park track in Ontario (no, we haven’t heard of it either) to set the cars against each other.
According to Ford, the three cars were driven round the track by the same driver in the same weather conditions, with new tyres and full fuel tanks, with the Ford GT the winner with a lap time of 2:09.8 (Ferrari 2:12.9, McLaren 2:10.8). Hmm.
Whether Ford’s boasts about the GT translate in to similar performance on the road and on other, rather better known, tracks, remains to be seen.
But with the 2017 Ford GT now in production, it won’t be long before we find out.

Strange how Ford took it to some backwater track in Hicksville, Ontario instead of taking it to the ‘Ring like most other big manufacturers do when they want to prove how quick their cars are.
