2017 Toyota Prius Plug-in DROPS in price just a week after UK prices announced

The new Toyota Prius Plug-in hybrid is dropping in price in the UK just a week after Toyota announced prices for the second generation plug-in hybrid.

It’s a little over a week since the Toyota Prius Plug-in’s UK prices were announced, but it seems Toyota got it wrong. They were charging too much.

In an unusual move, Toyota has decided to reduce UK prices for the new plug-in hybrid Prius before customer cars actually start to arrive in the UK. And it’s not a small price reduction either.

In fact, the price of the entry-level Prius Plug-in Hybrid Business Edition Plus drops from £34,895 to £31,695, a drop of £3,200, with the same price drop applying to the plug-in Prius Excel reducing it from £37,095 to £33,895.

What it also means is that the entry-level plug-in Prius will dip below £30k once the taxpayer bribe of £2.5k for ULEV is taken in to account – more than £2k less than the previous model plug-in Prius – and less than £3k more than the regular Prius Business Edition Plus.

Of course, we’re entirely certain that the change of heart on pricing has nothing to do with the imminent arrival of the Hyundai Ioniq plug-on hybrid, which would have been a big chunk cheaper than the Prius plug-in.
