The Vauxhall Grandland X SUV has been revealed ahead of a debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show as a new, larger, SUV from Vauxhall, joining the Mokka X and Crossland X.
It’s a good job the Peugeot 3008 is a very good urban SUV, because the new Vauxhall Grandland X SUV, revealed at the Shanghai Motor Show is, just like the new Citroen C5 Aircross, the Peugeot 3008 under the skin. With such a good starting point for their new, larger, SUV, Vauxhall should find it works very well for loyal brand buyers, offering them a very good urban SUV without any of the development costs.
Of course, with Vauxhall now under PSA ownership, they’d better get used to Vauxhalls being re-badged or re-skinned Peugeots and Citroens. Fortunately, Peugeots and Citroens are currently the best they’ve been for some time.
So, the Grandland X SUV is a Peugeot 3008 under the skin, but the Vauxhall skin makes the Grandland look like an Astra SUV, complete with rugged plastic cladding where needed and a contrast roof. It’s a decent looking thing.
Inside it’s familiar Astra territory, with a dash which looks almost pure Astra to us, central infotainment at the top end of the centre console, nice leather trim (well, in the range-topping Grandland X we’ve seen), space for five and a decent boot.
Vauxhall have also kept the Peugeot’s Grip Control in lieu of any actual 4WD models, and you can expect to find nothing under the bonnet from Vauxhall either – it’s going to be pure PSA power, and that should mean a plug-in hybrid version is likely.
The Vauxhall Grandland X gets its world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. It will go on sale shortly after with first customer cars expected in early 2018. Expect prices in line with the 3008 and C5 Aircross, starting around £20,000.
