New Honda Civic Type R costs from £30,995 in the UK – Type R GT costs £32,995

The new Honda Civic Type R – revealed at this year’s Geneva Motor Show – costs from £30,995 in the UK for the entry level model. The GT version costs £2k more.

The new Honda Civic Type R was revealed at this year’s Geneva Motor Show in March – exactly two years on from the Type R take on the previous Honda Civic – and now it’s going on sale in the UK priced from £30,995.

What UK buyers get for their money is the new generation Honda Civic, but with the entertainment dial turned up to 11 in the Type R thanks, in no small part, to the Type R’s 316bhp.

Those 316 horses still go through the Civic’s front wheels, but there’s a revised six-speed manual gearbox, independent multi-link suspension at the back and big Brembos to make sure you stop.

The new Type R does look more cohesive than the old model – although it’s still a bit Christmas tree shouty – and should at least be quicker and more comfortable than the old car, with new adaptive dampers keeping you safe from the chiropractor.

Extra kit for the more expensive Type R GT includes blind spot with cross traffic, climate, Honda Connect with Garmin Nav, wireless charging, uprated sound and LED front fogs.

As with the previous generation, we are fully expecting a huge demand for the Civic Type R.

The order bank is already open and we are experiencing strong interest off the back of the launch at the Geneva Motor Show in March – and this is before our customers have even taken a test drive.

The first UK versions of the new Honda Civic Type R will be in Honda’s UK showrooms in July.
