Richard Hammond has MASSIVE crash driving Rimac Electric Supercar
Richard Hammond, former Top Gear host and now co-presenter on Amazon’s Grand Tour, has massive crash in Rimac EV Supercar in Switzerland.
The odds are that if you drive high-powered cars to the limit on a regular basis, something is going to go wrong at some point. Especially, it seems, if you’re former Top Gear host Richard Hammond. From his infamous, death-defying crash more than a decade ago in Yorkshire to his recent mishap with a motorbike, The Hamster has always been a bit accident prone.
Now, whilst driving the electric Rimac One Supercar on the Hemburg Hill Climb in Switzerland, Hammond has had a spectacular crash, losing control on a bend, rolling the car down a hill and escaping just as the Rimac burst in to flames.
Hammond was flown by helicopter to nearby St. Gallen Hospital and, remarkably, he escaped with nothing more than a fractured knee. Rather than being a ‘Hamster’ Hammond has become a cat with more than its fair share of lives.
It’s not yet clear whether the accident was down to driver error or whether the Rimac went wrong, but at least Richard Hammond escaped with not much more than a gammy knee.
Although this accident will put a bit of a spoke in the wheel of series two of The Grand Tour, it seems unlikely to be enough to derail the new series, which is due to air from October 2017 – at least according to James May speaking on the One Show.
The biggest obstacle to Hammond’s ongoing adventures is likely to be the opinion of Mindy, Richard’s ‘She Who Must be Obeyed’.
