MINI 1499 GT Special Edition tips its hat to the original Mini 1275 GT
The MINI 1499 GT Special Edition arrives as a sporty looking limited edition MINI paying homage to the original Mini 1275 GT. On sale now.
MINI loves a special edition, and likes to hang it on a hook too. This, the MINI 1499 GT, hangs on the hook that says ‘Mini 1275 GT’, although its ethos is somewhat different. The original 1275 GT was a bored-out performance Mini, but this new 1499 GT is really quite the opposite.
Despite looks which shout ‘JCW’, all this limited edition MINI – just 1499 are being built for the UK market – gets is a de-tuned 1.5 litre three-pot engine delivering a non-sporty 101bhp.
That means a modest 0-62mph of something over 10.0 seconds, which although unlikely to feel even remotely close to quick is still enough to make the well-handling MINI fun around town.
Despite its modest power, the 1499 GT comes with the same sports suspension as the Cooper S, looks courtesy of a JCW sports pack, a set of 17″ alloys and a gold graphics pack including decals on the side echoing the 1275 GT’s.
Inside there are sports seats finished in leather and fabric, a JCW steering wheel, some carbon black highlights and an upgraded sound system.
The MINI 1499 GT is now on sale at MINI’s UK dealers, with customer cars expected to start arriving in November. The 1499 GT costs £16,990.
