Renault CUT warranty on new cars from four years to three
Renault has reduced the warranty on its new cars from four years and 100,000 miles to three years and 60,000 miles as it introduces a new ‘Easy Life’ servicing package.
New car warranties, on the whole, are better than they’ve ever been, with car manufacturers like Kia offering seven years from new, and Hyundai, Ssangyong, Toyota, Subaru and Mitsubishi offering five years.Renault was on the warranty tier below the Koreans and Japanese with its four year, 100,000 mile warranty – but not any more.
With effect from 1 February 2018, all Renault cars will have their warranty cut to just three years and 60,000 miles (although the Koleos and Zoe are warranted for 100k and three years) as Renault roll out their Easy Life servicing plan option.
The Easy Life plan offers three years and 30,000 miles of servicing for a flat £99 when you buy a new Renault, which Renault says will save you £560.
But if you want the four year warranty you would have had until this week, you’ll need to fork out an extra £500 to get a fourth year extension on the warranty, servicing and roadside assist.
In reality, the reduction of the Renault warranty from four years to three probably won’t affect the majority of new car buyers as they’ll be shot of their car before the warranty expires.
But we’d expect it to have an impact on used car values as the car reaches the three year mark. And it sends out a poor message about Renault’s long term reliability.
