The new 2019 Peugeot 508 SW Estate has been revealed, joining the new 508 Fastback in Peugeot’s 508 line-up.
The new Peugeot 508 arrived just a few months ago, bringing with it a new confident style that’s more ‘Fastback’ than saloon and adding a decently stylish offering to the shrinking D-Segment saloon market, hoping to challenge more ‘Premium’ offerings in the process. Now we get the 508’s estate sibling – the new Peugeot 508 SW – and, if anything, it’s even more stylish than the saloon.
Pretty much identical to the 508 saloon from the nose to the B-pillar, the new 508 Estate manages to turn the shed that’s needed on the back to make an estate look sleek and stylish and, to our eyes, more appealing than the new ‘Fastback’.
There is a small space penalty in the boot for the sweeping roofline, but with the seats down – and they drop at the flick of a switch – there’s a decent 1,780 litres of space to lug stuff, complete with boot rails and luggage nets (well, if you buy a model far enough up the trim scale).
The rest of the interior is straight from the 508 saloon, complete with Peugeot’s saucer-sized steering wheel and i-Cockpit digital dash, massaging seats, top of the range FOCAL Sound, Adaptive Cruise, Stop-Go, Lane Keep Assist and Night Vision (again, model dependent).
Engine options are a pair of petrols and four diesels, with the 1.6 PureTech petrol offered with 178bhp or 222bhp, and the diesel offerings either 1.5 or 2.0 litre with outputs from 127bhp to 178bhp. Later, well in to 2019, there will be a plug-in hybrid with a 31 mile EV range.
The new Peugeot 508 SW will get its official debut at the Paris Motor Show in the Autumn and go on sale in the UK in January 2019.
