Hyundai Kona Electric UK PRICE and Spec

Hyundai Kona Electric UK PRICE and Spec REVEALED

Prices and specifications for the Hyundai Kona Electric – Hyundai’s new urban crossover EV – start at under £30,000 in the UK. On sale 1 August 2018.

When the electric Hyundai Kona was revealed back in February, we reckoned it could be a real game changer for the EV market as the first electric compact SUV to hit the market. As long as the price was right.

We expected (hoped) the Kona EV would start at around £25k, so the announcement by Hyundai today that the entry-level Kona Electric will costs £29,495, which puts it at £24,995 after the taxpayer bribe (for as long as it exists), is great news for EV buyers.

That will buy you the entry-level KONA Electric SE 39kWh, which means a 133bhp electric motor and a range of 186 miles (officially) and an SE spec including 7″ infotainment with Carplay and Android Auto, DAB, rear parking sensors, rear view camera, auto lights, climate and keyless. Which, if your Kona Electric is a local driver, is probably all you need.

If you’re happy with the lower power and shorter range of the 39kWh version you can get more toys in the Premium 39kWh version for an extra £1,420, including privacy glass, LED tail lights, bigger touchscreen with Sat Nav and Krell Sound.

But for another £3,125 – which means a price after car grant of £29,495 – you can have the Kona Electric Premium with the more appealing 64kWh batteries and a 210bhp electric motor which is good for a 300 mile range and is a chunk livelier.

The range-topping Hyundai Kona Electric Premium SE is only available with the 64kWh battery and comes equipped with LED headlights with High beam Assist, Cornering lights, HUD, leather, heated and ventilated front seats and heated steering wheel. It costs £31.740 after EV car grant.

Tony Whitehorn, Hyundai UK CEDO, said:

With the 64kWh offering a potential 300 mile range, KONA Electric will not only appeal to customers who are already familiar with battery electric technology but perhaps more importantly, will enable some customers to take the step into electric vehicles by not only removing range anxiety but by doing so with a stylish, technically advanced and affordable package.

Hyundai has already had to suspend orders for the Kona Electric in Norway because of demand, so expect numbers available in the UK to be quite limited in the short term. If you want to place an order for the Kona Electric – and you probably should – you’ll need to go to Hyundai’s Click to Buy website on 2 August and stake your claim.
