Mercedes EQ C ELECTRIC SUV will Debut in September – just ahead of the Audi e-tron

The Mercedes EQ C – Mercedes’ competition for the Jaguar I-Pace and Audi e-tron – will debut on 4 September at the me Convention in Stockholm.

The Mercedes EQ C electric SUV – first revealed as the Generation EQ Concept in 2016 – will make its debut in production guise at the ‘me’ Convention in Stockholm in 4 September 2018 and, we assume, reach a wider audience at the Paris Motor Show a month later.

That means Mercedes will actually beat the Audi e-tron to a proper debut by a couple of weeks, but it does mean the Jaguar I-Pace will suddenly have proper German competition, although no one is going to be taking delivery of the Mercedes, or Audi, until 2019.

We have a pretty good idea of how the EQ C will look, thanks not only to the 2016 Concept, but also to Mercedes ‘official’ spy shots of their electric SUV out testing. But we’re less certain of what the electric powertrain will offer.

The Concept EQ C came with a pair of electric motors – one on each axle for 4WD – 400bhp and 516lb/ft of torque, a range of around 300 miles and a 70kWh array of batteries.

That’s all very similar to the Jaguar I-Pace and Audi e-tron, although both the Jaguar and Audi come with a more powerful 90kWh battery pack.

It seems unlikely Mercedes will deliver their first electric SUV with a spec less impressive than the competition, but we’ll find out in Stockholm in 4 September.
