Paul McCartney’s 1965 Mini Cooper S DeVille up for grabs

A 1965 Mini Cooper S DeVille by Radford is hitting the auction block in the US, the second of the four ‘Beatle Minis’ to be offered for sale in the last year.

When Brian Epstein, the Beatles’ manager, wanted to say a special thank you to the Fab Four, he bought them each a special customised Mini, despite the fact they’d already gone through just about every 1960s supercar already.

But the original Mini was classless, and despite the ‘Beatles Minis’ being highly customised versions of the regular Morris and Austin versions, the Fab Four still looked like one of the people.

Perhaps the most famous of the Beatles Minis was the George Harrison version with its very 1960s graphics (and which inspired a modern MINI special), although Ringo’s Mini hit the news last year when it sold for over £100k – to a Spice Girl.

Now it’s the turn of Paul McCartney’s 1965 Mini Cooper S DeVille to come up for sale with Worldwide Auctioneers – and it has no reserve. Although logic suggest it’ll cost more than the £102k Ginger Spice paid for Ringo’s.

If you’re a Beatle fan (and a Mini fan) this might be the last chance, for a while at least, to grab one of the four Beatle Minis.

It seems unlikely Gerry Halliwell will be parting with hers any time soon, John Lennon’s is on the missing list and George Harrison’s is still owned by Olivia.

The auction is on 1 September 2018 at the National Auto & Truck Museum in Auburn, Illinois
