Production of the Audi e-tron electric SUV is underway in Brussels
Audi has announced that their e-tron electric SUV has gone in to production today, just a day ahead of Mercedes’ planned reveal of their electric SUV – the Mercedes EQ C.
Back at the Geneva Motor Show in March – where the electric Jaguar I-Pace was revealed – Audi played spoiler by showcasing a camouflaged e-tron – their take on an electric SUV – on their Geneva stand, and had it running round the streets of Geneva, just so the world knew that the I-Pace wasn’t the only game in town.Audi were planning a reveal of the e-tron last month, but the untimely arrest of their CEO saw that debut pushed back until 17 September, meaning Audi wouldn’t be able to reveal the e-tron before the Mercedes EQ C – Mercedes take on the electric SUV – arrived on 4 September.
So, with the Mercedes EQ C scheduled for a debut tomorrow, Audi is back playing spoiler with a peek under the covers of the e-tron (above) and the news that the e-tron has gone in to production in Brussels.
Specs for the e-tron are similar to those for the EQ C and I-Pace, with up to 400bhp, a 90kWh battery, a range of around 250 miles and the ability to charge from 150kW chargers (when they arrive).
All will be revealed on the 17 September in San Francisco, by which time we’ll know exactly what the Mercedes competition has to offer.
