Audi e-tron quattro EV debut CANCELLED
The Audi e-tron quattro EV – Audi’s challenge to the Jaguar I-Pace – was due to be revealed in production guisee on 30 August. But it’s been cancelled.
The Audi e-tron quattro – Audi’s electric SUV – has been rather high profile in recent months as Audi try to get its new EV in to shot as Jaguar make hay as the first Premium car maker to deliver an electric SUV to market. Not only did Audi inject the e-tron quattro in to the I-Pace’s glory at the Geneva Motor Show in the Spring by having a prototype on their stand, they also made sure prototypes were busy running round the streets of Geneva to catch the eye of show visitors.
Audi followed the Geneva profile by releasing camouflaged photos of the e-tron-quattro and, at their annual press conference, revealed that the new EV SUV will cost from £71,000 when it finally arrives in production guise.
All this has been leading up to a debut for the e-tron-quattro on 30 August in Brussels, but after Audi CEO Rupert Stadler was arrested over emissions investigations, Audi has decided to cancel the event and re-group.
It looks like Audi are planning to have the e-tron quattro’s debut at a later date, and in the US rather than Europe, which probably means Mercedes will beat it to an EV SUV debut with the EQ C, currently scheduled for 4 September.
And the Dieselgate fallout continues.
