Audi e-tron quattro electric SUV will cost from £71,000
The Audi e-tron quattro – Audi’s upcoming electric SUV – will costs from £71,000 Audi has revealed at its annual press conference. Debuts in production guise this summer.
Audi has been on a real PR offensive over the last few weeks with their new e-tron quattro SUV – Audi’s first electric car – garnering a significant profile in Geneva despite the only cars available to see being prototypes, and camouflaged prototypes at that. But following the e-tron’s outings in Geneva, Audi followed up by putting the e-tron quattro on sale (although the e-tron has been on sale in Norway for some time) with a €1,000 deposit putting putative owners at the front of the queue.
But what Audi hasn’t done, at least until now, is tell us how much the new e-tron quattro SUV will cost.
But now, at Audi’s annual press conference, and almost as an aside between telling the world how Audi has shrugged-off dieselgate, has a spanking green future and will be delivering the e-tron GT as a Tesla Model S basher before long, Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management, revealed the new e-tron quattro will cost from around €80,000 (£71,000) when it goes on sale in Germany.
That’s an interesting price point for a car expected to offer the same sort of EV specs as the Jaguar i-Pace – around 400bhp, 90kWh battery and 0-62mph in around 4.5 seconds – as it’s at least £10k more than the Jaguar i-Pace price.
But although it’s around £10k more than the i-Pace, it’s just about the same money as the Tesla Model X 75D. Which could be interesting.
The Audi e-tron quattro is expected to be revealed in production guise – by which point we should have proper specs and full pricing – this summer in Brussels.
