Audi e-tron GT ELECTRIC saloon previewed
The Audi e-tron GT has been previewed at Audi’s annual press conference as a new electric saloon car planned for 2020 and aimed directly at the Tesla Model S.
Audi has been busy promoting its first proper electric car – the Audi e-tron quattro SUV – at Geneva this week, doing all it can to throw a bit of shade at the new Jaguar i-Pace.But having poked Jaguar’s i-Pace with a series of appearances for the e-tron quattro on Geneva’s streets and in the Show Hall, Audi is now confirming the arrival of another electric Audi – the Audi e-tron GT.
Announced at Audi’s annual press conference today, the e-tron GT looks aimed squarely at the Tesla Model S, with Audi promising it will arrive in production guise by 2020,will be ‘highly dynamic’ and be the brand’s first ‘Audi Sport’ BEV.
Audi hasn’t delivered any detail on the e-tron GT, beyond a single photo, but it’s not too much of a stretch to expect it to be closely related to the Porsche Mission E, which could mean a range of power levels up to and beyond 600bhp.
In terms of how it looks, it seems Audi isn’t following Jaguar’s design lead by making the Gran Turismo look very different to conventional cars, but is following the tradition GT long-bonnet route, and the interior will doubtless feature a new version of Audi’s very good i-cockpit and a plethora of big screens.
The Audi e-tron GT will be built at Audi’s plant near Neckarsulm, and will go in to production in 2020, following the Audi e-tron quattro electric SUV and the e-tron Sportback.
