New Tesla Roadster REVEALED in Europe
The new Tesla Roadster – Tesla’s ‘proposed’ hyper-performance electric supercar – has been revealed in Europe, just as Mercedes reveals it EQC.
It seems that car makers are busier than ever trying to score points off each other in the race to bring electric cars to market, and grab the car-buying public’s attention. The reveal of the Mercedes EQC yesterday seems to have been the motivation behind Audi’s announcement their e-tron electric SUV had started production, and BMW managed to put their electric iX3 on sale (in Norway – two years before it will arrive). All at the same time as Mercedes was busy revealing the EQC.
The big German three premium makers – Audi, BMW and Mercedes – are all going after a market for electric SUVs created by Tesla with the Model X, so it’s really no surprise that Tesla has pitched in with its own spoiler for the EQC reveal with a debut of its own – the new Tesla Roadster.
The new Tesla Roadster was previewed last year, but at the Grand Basel Show – a sort of ‘Greatest Designs’ show – in Switzerland, Tesla has displayed the Roadster, it’s first showing in Europe. Coincidence? Of course.
As far as we can tell, the Tesla Roadster in Switzerland is a design shell, but it served the purpose of giving Mercedes – a former Tesla shareholder – a bit of a dig.
It also reminds us of Elon Musk’s claims for the Roadster which include a 200kWh battery pack, 0-62mph in 1.9 seconds and a range of over 600 miles. Which is really quite incredible.
If the promises on the Roadster float your boat, you can already order one; if you want the ‘regular’ Roadster, Tesla want you to stump up £38,000 straight away, and if you want the Founder Series Roadster you’ll need to send Tesla £189,000. Ouch.

Peter Abatan says
No joking, this is one of the most beautiful cars the US has made, I will go as far to say that Ferrari has nothing on the Tesla Roadster. Awesome!
