BMW iX3 Electric SUV goes on sale
The BMW iX3, BMW’s take on an electric SUV, isn’t due to launch until 2020, but BMW is already taking order deposits in Norway.
It will be followed in a fortnight by the unveiling of the Audi e-tron (which has already started production), with both the Mercedes and Audi joining the Jaguar I-Pace in the quest for the hearts and minds of premium car buyers’ cash.
But what of BMW in all this?
Well, as we already know, BMW’s challenge to the EQ C, I-Pace and e-tron will be the electric take on the X3 – the BMW iX3 – which was previewed with the Concept iX3 earlier this year. But it’s not going on sale until 2020.
But, entirely coincidentally we’re sure, the BMW iX3 has been put on sale just as the Mercedes and Audi EV SUVs hit the headlines – but, it seems, only in Norway.
Just as other car makers have done (Hyundai, Porsche, Audi) BMW has chosen Europe’s EV capital to kick-off sales, offering Norwegian EV lovers the chance to get at the front of the queue for the iX3’s launch by sticking down a £1,400 deposit.
Based on the iX3 Concept, the BMW does seem to fall a bit short of the offerings from Audi, Mercedes and Jaguar with a 70kWh battery and 266bhp, although it seems likely that will improve by the time the production iX3 arrives in 2020.
