Mercedes-AMG A35 tease begins
Ahead of a debut at the Paris Motor Show, the tease starts for the Mercedes-AMG A35, Mercedes’ new entry-level AMG model, sitting below the AMG A45.
The new Mercedes A-Class went on sale in the UK in March, but the quickest model you can grab is the A250 with its useful 221bhp. But that’s about to change. Before you get too excited and think the new AMG A45 is about to be revealed, this isn’t the A-Class range-topping A45 but its lesser sibling. Yes, Mercedes has managed to squeeze an extra proper AMG model in to the new A-Class range to do battle with cars like the VW Golf R – the Mercedes AMG A35.
Due to arrive at the Paris Motor Show in a couple of weeks, and expected to go on sale in the UK straight after its debut, Mercedes begins the tease for the A35 ahead of its debut, but are giving little away.
But just because Mercedes doesn’t want to divvy up the specs for the A35 just yet, that doesn’t mean we don’t have a pretty good idea of what to expect.
Expected to cost around £35k, the AMG A35 will get a reworked take on Mercedes M270 four-pot engine already found the in the new A-Class, but delivering a much more fulsome 300bhp (or thereabouts), pitching the new A35 right at the Golf R.
Expect the A35 and A45 to get similar AMG looks, with small cosmetic differences – like twin exhausts on the A35 and quad exhausts on the A45 – to differentiate the two models, as well as AMG suspension with adjustable damping making the A35 more dynamic than the regular A-Class, but not as hardcore as the A45.
More, no doubt, will be officially revealed in the next couple of weeks.
