Volkswagen ID Hatch EV arrives in OFFICIAL ‘Spy’ video
The Volkswagen ID Electric Hatch is shown out testing on the road in South Africa – fully camouflaged – as it moves to a 2019 debut.
You might expect that the arrival of the VW Golf Mk 8 in 2019 would be the focus of VW’s ‘teasing’ marketing, but it seems Volkswagen are so intent on re-inventing themselves as a maker of fluffy green electric cars that the new Golf’s arrival seems almost irrelevant.Instead, we get the VW ID Hatch teased in a video showing camouflaged IDs out playing in South Africa ahead of a 2019 debut.
Clearly, VW see the electric ID hatch as the next ‘big’ VW, continuing the line from the Beetle to the Golf, and a car which will be the mainstay of the VW range for years to come. Assuming anyone actually wants to buy one.
The VW ID Hatch is a similar size to the Golf, but it’s built on VW’s new MEB platform set to underpin VW’s range of EVs, with a 168bhp electric motor at the back driving the rear wheels, more cabin space than the Golf and a range of between 205 and 340 miles depending on which version you buy.
It looks a promising electric hatch, but are car buyers really ready to eschew the ICE Golf in big numbers and tip in to its electric replacement?

Amazing. They will sell millions of these with that price (VW Diesel Golf) and those ranges. I want one for the city.
