Land Rover Discovery Landmark Edition BACK as Land Rover celebrates 30 years of Discovery

April 19, 2019 By Cars UK

Land Rover Discovery Landmark Edition

Land Rover Discovery Landmark Edition

The Land Rover Discovery Landmark Edition arrives to celebrates 30 years since the Land Rover Discovery was launched in 1989.

It’s 30 years since the Land Rover Discovery arrived, complete with its slightly mad Conran designed interior, and it’s built itself a reputation as the workhorse of the Land Rover range, capable of doing more off-road than any other of Land Rover’s range of SUVs (Defender apart).

Having gone through four generations up to 2017, the Disco continued to appeal to farmers, families and businesses needing an SUV which really could do the dirty jobs. But then came the Discovery 5 (although not badged as such).

The Disco 5 is still capable of doing proper off-road stuff, but Land Rover seem to have lost their way with a car which no longer seems a solid partner for drivers who need its abilities and relish its chunky, boxy looks. It’s become a bit of an oddity with odd design features (like the off-set number plate) and a vibe that’s just not appealing. It also seems more ‘fragile’ than the Disco 4.

The Discovery is now the smallest seller in the Land Rover range (yes, it’s outsold by the Discovery Sport, Evoque, Velar, Range Rover Sport and Range Rover), which is a bit sad in the year it hits 30. But that’s not stopping Land Rover celebrating with a special model.

The Land Rover Discovery Landmark Edition (Land Rover also delivered a Disco Landmark to end Discovery 4 production) starts out as a Disco SE before Land Rover adds the Dynamic Exterior Pack which throws a butch bumper, mesh grille and side vents in to the equation.

There is also a pair of panoramic panels on the roof, Hi-Line tail lights and front fogs, privacy glass and 20″  alloys. Inside gets leather in Ebony or Acorn, satin brushed centre console, aluminium mesh finisher and 380W Meridian Sound.

You can have the Disco Landmark with either LR’s four-pot 240 SD4 or the six-pot 306 SD6, with prices starting at £57,350 for the SD4 and £59,995 for the SD6.
