New Hyundai i10 arrives – and it’s a ‘Go Big’ little Hyundai

The all-new Hyundai i10 is revealed ahead of its Frankfurt debut, with a new design, new technology and more room than the outgoing i10.

We had a tease for the new Hyundai i10 last month, and it looked like Hyundai was making the new i10 in to a a funky little City Car. The reality is a chunk less funky, but it’s a renewal for Hyundai’s little i10 which looks convincing nonetheless.

Hyundai’s i10 launches with the tagline ‘Go Big’, which relates more to the big car features than its size, although its size – and proportions – have changed in this all-new i10.

The wheelarches at the back get a bit wider and the roofline a bit lower, the wheelbase grows by 40mm for more back seat room but, thanks to a more ‘wheels at the corners’ design, the overall length hardly grows at all.

Despite this being a new i10, it still looks like an i10, but there’s a wider grille with running lights to bring it up to date and you can now have 16″ alloys if you wish too as well as a choice of ten paint jobs and two-tone roof.

Inside, the new i10 gets more upmarket with better materials, and there’s an 8″ touchscreen (the biggest in the sector, say Hyundai) with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay included, wireless phone charging, AEB, Lane Departure and (optional) rear-view camera.

The engines are carried over from the current i10, with the option, for now, of a 66bhp 1.0 litre three-pot or 83bhp 1.2 litre four-pot, mated to a five-speed manual gearbox as standard but with the option of a five-speed automated manual.

The new Hyundai i10 will debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in a few days time and go on sale in the New Year. Expect prices to nudge up a bit from the current i10.
