Morris JE Electric Van tease
The Morris name returns to the road as a new group resurrect the Morris Commercial brand with a planned electric Homage to the J-Type Van.
You have to be a bit long in the tooth to remember Morris, and even older to remember Morris Commercial, but the commercial bit is about to make a comeback. The new Morris Commercial is a UK start-up which has acquired the name rights, and is planning to launch a homage to the original Morris J-Type van, originally built from 1949 to 1961.
The new Morris Commercial hasn’t tried too hard to come up with a new name for its retro-influenced van (teased above), the Morris JE, but this isn’t a van following the latest trend of electrifying a classic, but an all-new electric van which pays homage in its design.
Morris are promising some modern styling cues for the new van, to go with the retro influence, designed from the ground up to be an electric vehicle with a lightweight chassis and carbon fibre body, although, so far, Morris aren’t letting us know what the EV powertrain is.
Dr. Qu Li, founder of the new Morris Commercial, said:
I am so pleased to reach this stage after over two years of intense development. It’s been a fantastic journey and I am extremely proud of what the whole Morris Commercial team and its incredible suppliers have achieved. The working engineering prototype has undergone extensive road testing and the end of 2019 is an amazing conclusion to the first phase of the project.
Expect more teases, and hopefully some decent images and EV powertrain details, in the next couple of months.
