Audi e-tron electric SUV driving round Geneva

The Audi e-tron – Audi’s electric SUV – will be at the Geneva Motor Show with several of the 250 prototypes taking to the streets of Geneva during the show.

Just a few days ago, we had ‘official’ spy photos of the Mercedes EQC Electric SUV as Mercedes moved to remind us firmly that the new Jaguar i-Pace isn’t going to have the ‘Premium electric SUV’ game all to itself.

Now it’s Audi’s turn to poke the i-Pace with a stick as the Geneva Motor Show looms, announcing they’ll be running e-tron prototypes round the streets of Geneva as the show progresses, asking people to snap them in motion and send the photos in.

Of course, nether the Mercedes EQC or the Audi e-tron are actually going to be revealed in production guise at Geneva, but it’s a timely reminder for Jaguar (and Tesla) that the Germans are coming to play.

What exactly the Audi e-tron – which was going to be the Audi Q6 – will offer in production guise remains to be seen.

Logic says it will be very similar to the EQC and i-Pace with around 400bhp, 300 mile range and a 90kWh battery pack.

That said, the Audi e-tron Concept from 2015 – the first look at what will turn in to the production car – came with 496bhp from its three electric motors, although that could be reserved for a production version of the Audi e-tron Sportback Concept we saw last year.

We may learn more this week at Geneva.
