Audi SQ8 SPIED on video
The Audi SQ8 – a performance take on the newly revealed Q8 SUV – is caught on video testing ahead of a debut expected before the end of 2018.
The new Audi Q8 arrived in the summer as Audi gave the Q7 a ‘Lifestyle’ makeover to plant the new Q8 at the top of its SUV range.Initially, all that’s on offer for the Q8 is a single 3.0 litre diesel engine in the Q8 50 TDI, with the promise of a less powerful Q8 45 TDI next year and a petrol version in the 55 TFSI. But there’s also a performance version – or two – on the way.
You can expect a properly silly money, daft performance Q8 with a full fat RS version of the Q8 at some point next year, but what is looming is the Audi SQ8, expected to debut before the end of 2018 and promising to be quite lively.
As you’d expect, ahead of the SQ8’s debut, Audi are busy playing with the new car at the Nurburgring and, just as you’d also expect, the SQ8 (actually, not just one) has been spied on video (below).
Apart from the usual titivations to make the Q8 look more aggressive, you might be a bit disappointed to know it will be yet another diesel Q8, although in the SQ8 that means a 4.0 litre V8 diesel packing 430bhp – just like the SQ7. Although, in markets outside the UK and Europe, it’s expected Audi will offer the new SQ8 with a 3.0 litre TFSI V6 petrol instead.
Performance isn’t likely to be much different in the diesel-powered SQ8 to that of the SQ7, which means a sub-5 second 0-62mph and official economy of around 40mpg. Although you’ll be paying more for the SQ8 than the SQ7.
