BMW 3 Series GT gets a tweak to catch up with the rest of the 3-Series range

It’s the turn of the BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo to get some small cosmetic tweaks and engine updates as BMW completes the refresh of its 3-Series range.

It’s juts over a year since the BMW 3-Series got a bit of a cosmetic makeover, some tweaked settings and improved engines, and it’s taken all that time for BMW to remember there’s another 3-Series model in their range that didn’t get tweaked – the 3-Series Gran Turismo.

So the 3 Series GT comes in for a range of makeover tweaks that aren’t really enough to call this a facelift, but they are worthwhile and an improvement, although they’re pretty much what the rest of the Series range enjoyed a year ago.

Changes at the front include LED headlights and small tweaks to the bumper and air intakes, slightly tweaked rear bumpers and LED tail lights.

Inside BMW has titivated with some extra chrome, new colours and trim options, a new interface for the infotainment, a new LCD screen and switchgear updates.

Just like the rest of the 3-Series range, there’s an almost bewildering array of engine, gearbox and drivetrain combinations on the 3-Series GT.

The new turbo 2.0 litre petrol comes with 181bhp in the 320i and 248bhp in the 330i, and the 335i gets replaced by the 340i which gets 321bhp.

On the diesel front, the 2.0 litre turbo delivers 148bhp in the 318d, 187bhp in the 320d and 220bhp in the 325d, with the 3.0 litre diesel giving the 330d 254bhp and the 33od 309bhp.

The 320i, 318d and 320d get a six-speed manual as standard and everything else gets an eight-speed auto, all models come as standard with RWD, except the 335d which gets 4WD xDrive as standard. You can also opt for xDrive on everything expect the 318d.

Despite the engines offering a bit more, economy and emissions have improved, from a 4.5 per cent improvement in the 318d to 13.8 per cent  in the 320d.

The refreshed BMW 3 Series GT range goes on sale at BMW’s UK dealers in July, with prices from £30,405 for the 320i, rising to £43,415 for the 335d xDrive.
