BMW 6 Series Coupe (2011) revealed

September 19, 2010 By Cars UK

The BMW 6 Series Coupe Concept

The BMW 6 Series Coupe Concept. Concept? Yeah, right.

BMW has revealed the 2011 BMW 6 Series ahead of its debut at the Paris Motors Show. They’re calling it a a ‘Concept’. Poppycock.

To be entirely accurate, BMW are calling this the BMW 6 Series Coupe Concept. But don’t believe a word of it; this is the new BMW 6 Series Coupe. Would you stop producing the old model if the new one’s nowhere near ready to roll? No, of course you wouldn’t, and nor would BMW.

Of course, none of this is exactly a shock; we’ve been seeing spy photos of the new 6 Series for what seems like forever, and with the new 5 series – with which the new 6 Series will share underpinnings – already running around we know we will get the replacement for the 6 Series in 2011 – whatever ‘Concept’ tag BMW may be declaring.

And the 2011 6 Series is a good looking GT. Gone are the Bangle oddities and in comes a less jarring design mantra; some would say a safer visage, and definitely a safer arse. All of which we were expecting after the BMW Gran Coupe Concept.

The nose gets a more upright grill and the back end gets a bum lift; gone is the over-sized arse to be replaced by something with more appealing contours. It’s still quite a large arse, but it seems to have gone from Vanezza Feltz to Beyonce. Which is just fine by us.

Whilst to our eyes the exterior is a predictable design based on the Gran Coupe, the interior seems to sound some new chords for BMW interiors. The centre console is an asymmetrical job which seems to be coaxing the driver inwards; there’s a new design steering wheel which looks appealing and the whole lot seems to be a step closer to ‘Bespoke’ than we’ve seen before from BMW.

But all we’ve got to go off are the photos. We won’t get to see the new BMW 6 Series until the Paris Motor Show in a week or two. We don’t even know what engines will be on offer, but it’s a safe bet we’ll see the high-end of the engines on offer in the 5 Series.

There will, of course, be both a convertible 6 Series and a BMW M6. Although we expect the new 6 Series to start hitting roads by Spring 2011, the M6 and convertible will probably not turn up until Spring 2012.

But of course, that’s all rubbish. This isn’t a real BMW 6 Series. It’s just a concept.
