The new BMW X7 showing it can do off-road
The upcoming BMW X7 gets a video tease ahead of a debut in Q4 2018, with BMW’s new range-topping SUV trying to be a Range Rover off-road.
However hard the Germans, and others, try, they’ve never really come close to matching the Range Rover for class, ability and desirability.Mercedes has been trying for years with the GLS, Audi is having a bit of a go in a similar realm with the Q8, and BMW has a plan up its sleeve to take on the Rangie – the new BMW X7.
A big SUV sitting above the X5 – effectively a 7 Series SUV – the new X7 was previewed as the BMW Concept X7 iPerformance last year, since when BMW has rolled out some ‘official’ spy shots of the X7 prototypes, and is planning to debut it later this year, either at Paris or LA.
Now BMW are back with more titbits on the X7, with a video showing the big BMW SUV doing Range Rover stuff on snowy roads, mountain passes and sand, as well as on city streets and open roads.
Expect a toned-down take on the X7 Concept when the production car arrives, complete with upmarket interior with plenty of screens and safety stuff, probably seven seats and a range of both petrol and diesel engines. And probably a hybrid.
But will it all be enough to beat the Range Rover?

Oblivious says
Of course BMW want the new X7 to be able to take on the Range Rover, but the Range Rover is about far more than just its ability off road. It’s all about how buyers perceive it and whatever BMW do to make the X7 perfrom well off road everyone will still believe that the Range Rover is better.
