The Citroen DS5 goes on sale in the UK in April

It’s getting on for three years since we first reported that the Hypnos Concept would arrive as the Citroen DS5, and that there would be a hybrid Citroen DS5 by 2011. Well, we may have sneaked in to 2012 but the DS5 is almost here, so Citroen UK has sent price and specification details.

The DS5 looks set to continue the DS goodness we’ve seen, in particular from the DS3, but whether it will appeal to enough 3-Series buyers with its quirky style remains to be seen. But it’s well equipped – inside and out – and seems to offer a sporty ride; it’s certainly a great left-field choice.

Entry point for the DS5 is DSign trim, which offers Fogs with cornering, Electric folding mirrors, LED running lights, Cruise, electric windows, Climate and auto lights and wipers. Up a notch to the DStyle trim and you can add part leather, Citroen’s ‘Cockpit’ roof with toggle switches and blinds, eMyWay (colour SatNav with traffic info), rear parking sensors and a reversing camera.

At the top of the heap for the DS5 lies the DSport which adds full leather, electric heated sports seats in the front, massage driver’s seat, Xenon lights, parking sensors at the front and a colour heads up display.

Engine options are the THP 200, e-HDi 110, HDi 160 and the new Hybrid4 Diesel Electric with a very decent 200bhp, and gearbox options are manual, auto or EGS six-speed.

The Citroen DS5 goes on sale in April at £22,400 for the DSign e-HDi 110 Airdream EGS6, rising to £32,200 for the DSport Hybrid4 200 Airdream EGS6.
