The DS E-Tense Concept has been revealed ahead of a debut at the Geneva Motor Show as a 396bhp electric GT, perhaps pointing the way to DS’s future.
It’s a year since DS became a stand alone Citroen brand, and it’s celebrating by revealing this – the DS E-Tense Concept – ahead of a debut at the Geneva Motor Show.Citroen has always done good concepts – like the Divine DS and the Citroen GT – and the DS E-Tense looks to be another tease of what could be done, but probably won’t.
The E-Tense is a dramatic looking GT car with sculptured looks – and about the same size as a Lamborghini Aventador – with lots of ‘Concept’ stuff like a lack of a back window and a totally impractical (or so it seems) dashboard structure inside.
Powering the E-Tense is a 396bhp electric motor, powered by a 53kWh lithium ion battery pack which is good for a range of 192 miles and is said to manage the 0-62mph dash in 4.5 seconds.
The batteries are housed under the floor for a lower centre of gravity, there’s independent double wishbone suspension and a set of 20″ alloys clad in bespoke Michelin Pilot Super Sport rubber.
It’s an impressive concept, but it’s really more about demonstrating the future direction of DS styling, and a look a potential electric powertrain for road cars, than previewing a production DS. It also neatly links DS road cars (well, concept cars) to their Formula E World Championship endeavours.
The DS E-Tense Concept will debut next week at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.
