Electric Skoda Citigo e iV officially revealed

Electric Skoda Citigo e iV officially revealed

The electric Skoda Citigo e iV is officially revealed, adding electric power as an option to the Citigo City car and promising a range of 165 miles.

Last week, Skoda teased the imminent arrival of their electric Citigo, and now it’s arrived. Say hello to the new Skoda Citigo e iV.

Despite an electric City Car being possibly the most sensible electric car you could have, there isn’t an overwhelming choice at the moment. And what choice there is – like the electric VW e-Up! – is overpriced and with pretty poor range – even for a car designed just for blatting round town.

But the little electric Skoda could answer both problems, as it looks set to offer decent range and a quite appealing price.

Power for the Citigo EV comes from an 82bhp electric motor offering reasonable performance, with 0-62mph coming up in 12.5 seconds, although its instant torque will make it feel much livelier around town.

But the Citigo e also gets a much more substantial battery pack than the VW e-Up! – on which it’s based – with its 36.8kWh promising a WLTP range of up to 160 miles. Which is way better than the e-Up!’s woeful real-world 66 miles.

The Citigo e will also be able to charge at up to 40Kw, meaning a full charge from a DC rapid charger will be under an hour, and home charging with a 3-pin socket is an overnight job. Although the DC charging and higher-powered AC cable are set to be options on the cheapest models.

The most noticeable design tweaks are a body-coloured blanked off grille and re-profiled front bumper, a set of Fogs, LED running lights and a plug socket behind the fuel flap.

Entry-level Citigo e models will get steel wheels and a pretty low spec in an effort to deliver a low headline price, but it looks like there will be a choice of trim levels if you want more.

There is nothing official on prices for the Citigo e yet, but it seems Skoda expect an entry-level price under €20k. That could mean a UK price of £18k, and a buy price – after electric car grant – of around £15k.
